Three things we do besides selling you the part: fit it, calibrate it, and tell you where your order is. Warranty claims and international orders are long enough to have their own pages — claims here, international here.

Fitting at the quay

We fit winches, compasses and deck hardware alongside at Pelican Quay for $180 a half-day, which covers most single jobs. You supply the boat, a berth we can reach, and the parts; we bring tools and two people. Bigger jobs are quoted before we start and we have never yet sent a bill larger than the quote. We do not work aloft, we do not do engine work, and we do not haul out — the yard on the north quay does all three.

Booking is within the same week nine times in ten, and we tell you at the counter when it is not. Fitting happens Monday to Thursday, because Friday is a dispatch day and the bench is needed for packing.

Compass calibration

We run the only Gullwing swing table on this coast, in the old bait shed inside the warehouse. It takes bookings Wednesdays only — that is not a scheduling preference, it is the one day the warehouse is quiet enough that the moving stock does not deflect the table.

A bench swing costs $95 and takes about an hour, producing the filled deviation card described on the Gullwing page. We also swing compasses aboard, on the water, for $225, which is the only way to account for the iron in your own boat — a bench swing checks the instrument, an on-board swing checks the installation. If you are fitting a new compass, you want both, and we will do the second one on the same Wednesday if the tide suits.

Where is my order?

Everything ships with a tracking number, sent by email the evening it leaves. Dispatch days and the order cutoff are on the Shipping FAQ. Once it has left us, allow two to four working days nationwide, or the same day for dockside delivery inside the harbour.

If it has been longer than four working days, tell us rather than the carrier — we can open a trace and you cannot. Nothing has ever gone permanently missing, but two orders a year go temporarily astray and we would rather find out early. Call on the VHF or use the counter details on Contact.

Can you help with something you did not sell me?

Usually. We will identify unfamiliar hardware, tell you what it is worth repairing, and say plainly when the answer is that it is not. There is no charge for being asked. We stop at gear we cannot get parts for, and we will say so rather than taking your money to find out.
